Eating and Drinking During Labor (or as I like to say "Birthing Time")
Generally during a woman's birthing time at a hospital she is forbidden from eating or drinking. Most hospitals just give a woman a cup of ice chips. At my first two births I was not allowed to eat or drink and with my first birth I was not even allowed to eat AFTER I had my baby. I never even considered it an option and never even really thought about why eating and drinking was not allowed. That is until I attended Hypnobabies. In Hypnobabies they encourage you to eat and drink. This helps keep your energy up for the task of birthing a baby. If you are hungry or dehydrated your body is less likely to be able to energy to birth your baby and you are more at risk for c-section. Recently I have heard of some hospitals (mostly births attended by a midwife) allowing women to eat and drink. This is a smart thing!
